Re: My Favorite Places to buy Gold and Silver
I've also had pretty good success with Gainesville: http://www.gainesvillecoins.comIt helps that they sent me 86' SAEs on a "we-pick-the-date" rolls! Someone was asleep in the warehouse that day.

I would have to agree with Main and say Colorado Gold. We bought from Don...now he has both of his kids working for him as well. He is a very honest Joe and you never have to worry about a thing!

Re: My Favorite Places to buy Gold and Silver
I have some free advice today. Our firm has a paid subscription to Dunn and Bradstreet, so I used it to check up on Bullion Direct. Well, I have received about thirty alerts since I put them on my watch list, and each one is a slow pay complaint from a vendor.
I would watch out if you are using them. Those of you who have a "Nucleo" account are vulnerable to losses if they go belly up.

Re: My Favorite Places to buy Gold and Silver
Tulving frustrates me. They are based in Newport by my house, yet will not allow pick up. MONEX will allow pick up, but I dont like using them. Plus Tulvings minimums are way too high.

Re: My Favorite Places to buy Gold and Silver
Personally, I use APMEX, ebay (for silver), and Gainesville Coins ( www.gainesvillecoins.com). I've found all to be reliable sources and generally price compare all three.

Re: My Favorite Places to buy Gold and Silver
I've bought from each of the previously mentioned online sources, but haven't seen mentioned these two additional sources... American Gold ExchangeCalifornia Numismatic Investments (CNI)I've bought 90% "junk silver" from both (after comparing prices from 6 online suppliers.) Both have been very quick with shipping, and will try to ship the denomination you want (dimes, quarters, half-dollars [hard to find, at the moment].) I generally "wire" the payment from my bank, even though it costs $25 per wire. I compare online prices from Tulving, APMEX, CNI, BullionDirect, American Gold Exchange and NorthWest Mint, entering the spot (ask) price into an Excel spreadsheet, which calculates and displays the comparisons (including shipping.)

 What? Nobody buys from HSN?
HSN -- 10 oz. Silver Bar with Morgan Dollar Representation -- $250 (APMEX has these for $1.29 over spot -- about $144 today)...and how can you pass up... HSN -- 2009 Brilliant Uncirculated Silver Eagle Dollar Roll -- $800 Home Shopping Network -- "There's a sucker born every minute."

Re: My Favorite Places to buy Gold and Silver
Pretty much everything I've stacked has come from Apmex and Tulving. When I first started, I bought from Investment Rarities (who support Ted's writing), but they really burned me on the price of 90%. A friend had told me what a great company they were, and I stupidly put my trust in them, and way overpaid.
I wrote the president of the company back and complained about the ridiculous markup they had compared to Apmex, and he retorted, "who is Apmex?". Right, that would be about like me saying "who is Wal-Mart?". All I could do is vote with my dollars, they lost a customer for life.
I would really like to trade with a local, but in small town West Texas, there is no such thing.

Re: My Favorite Places to buy Gold and Silver
The Monarch prices look good and they're acceptance of payPal appeals to me. The 1.2% discount for all orders paid via cashier's check also caught my eye since I get them at no charge from my bank. I like the hand poured bars, but Monarch is new to me. I'm not a collector, but an investor and have to wonder how well recognized their bars will be down the road. Has anyone encountered any problems trying to sell hand poured bars to dealers?

I have done business with them and they are top rate. It actually is APM that I am not pleased with. Bullion Direct is profession and top rate. Are you able to back up this information??

Absolutely, I have a subscription to Dunn and Bradstreet so that we can check out sub-contractors, prime contractors and vendors before doing business with them. D&B lists slow pay complaints and no pay complaints along with consumer issues and lawsuits. I did not say they weren't providing good service, I merely pointed out that they have a lot of slow pay complaints with their vendors. To me, that is a red flag. While you may have a good relationship with them, and have timely deliveries, I would still be careful. As with any company. it can be a matter of a week and they are out of business. That goes for ALL companies. In Merritt Island, near my community, Bill Heard Chevrolet, the largest Chevy dealer in the states went out of business. There was no warning.....just closed their doors one morning and told everyone their check would be in the mail. That's how it goes.

I don't know anything about Bullion Direct, but Ancona is right about the slow pay being a red flag. I've maintained 30 day accounts for many years, and when an otherwise good payer all of the sudden starts slowing on their pay, you better watch out. I had a local landscaping/lawn maintenance company on our books for years, and they were an excellent account. A few months ago they started going from a 30 day pay to 60 or 90 days. Then last week they shut the doors. I have seen this happen several time over the years. Sometimes it means something, sometimes it doesn't. But definitely a concern!
