 $50,000 Cash-What PM's
Got an interesting question posed to me today. Someone asked what I would buy in PM's if I had $50,000 cash.(He does) Being far from an expert I told him to look on Tulving's site. How would you do it?? By the way,he only wants bullion,no numismatics. Thanks for your time.

 Re: $50,000 Cash-What PM's
First thing I'd do is make a round of the LCS's in the area or drive to the biggest city and acquaint myself with them. Then I'd buy "coins of the realm" which were either circulated or not but had no sales tax implied because it was an "exchange" of funds. Then I'd be sure to indicate that I had 50k to leave behind and I promise I would walk out the door with more ounces than if I went to Tulving etal.
On top of that I'd save 15 to 28 % tax when I sold because Only I knew what my cost basis was.

Buy 10oz. gold bar, maybe some 1oz gold coins, then buy 10oz. silver bars, with $5000 buy up ASE's.
90% is nice, but it's harder to get that spot price for it, whereas the .999 you can usually get spot or even a premium from some buyers.

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!! 10k in 90% silver 10k in .999 ASE 10k in .999 Other silver (1 oz only) 5 k in 1/10 oz Gold Eagle 5 k in 1/4 oz Gold Eagle 5 k in 1/2 oz Gold Eagle 5 k in 1 oz Gold Eagle If PMs go up, you will have a very hard time getting someone to pay out for 10 oz gold bar. So this approach allows easy liquidity, but of course requires more storage. The other thing I would do is to keep his purchases under 5k with any dealer. And do it mostly through local dealers. Not online with major players that will end up sharing customer information

Scared the heck out of me for a second. I still wanted to add a couple of these but not at 22k a piece. Got to get them before they get that high, which is inevitable in my opinion. By the way, Thanks for making me look at APMEX Milo. Just put more stuff in my shopping cart because of you. URGHHHHHH!

Also sorry Admiral I had an itch for silver and had to dump my 1959 to 1981 hoard of Jefferson Nickels and it added to the lunch money I've been saving. Went the check route this time instead of credit card. Probobly will have to wait forever for them to arrive, saved a whole $5 or so bucks.

 Re: $50,000 Cash-What PM's
BigJim#1-8,
It sounds like your friend is looking to get into precious metals purely as a means of investment and hedging against possible inflation/dollar devaluation. Assuming that’s the case, he is most likely to be concerned with his future ability of off-load his bullion whenever he sees fit (i.e. liquidity.) This being the case, I would strongly suggest getting into gold and silver bars of varying weights. As a general rule, you’ll pay a little more over spot the lower in weight you go, but when it comes time to sell, they’re usually a little easier to “get rid of.”
If on the other hand, your friend is staying away from modern bullion coins only because he doesn’t know much about them, you can assure him they are valued just as highly as their equally-weighted counterparts. What’s more, if he does spend just a little bit of time familiarizing himself with modern numismatic coins, he’s almost sure to demand a premium for his purchase in the future.
Hope this helps!

 Re: $50,000 Cash-What PM's
Hi Mike, Thanks for the info.He likes Eagles,Maple Leafs etc.. He,like me doesn't like the premiums on them, just something we have to live with. He's not interested in older numismatics.I guess he wants the biggest bang for his buck. As you said he's looking for a hedge. Maybe I'll give you a call & see how you can help. Thanks again.
